Ostend is one of the coastal cities in Belgium. It’s a very popular summer holiday destination because of its beach and coastal promenade. It’s accessible by car (only an hour ride from Brussels), by train and by coastal tram. The train station is located in the city center, with frequent InterCity trains serving Brugge railway station, Gent-Sint-Pieters, Brussels South and Liège-Guillemins. Right next to the train station is the shopping area of Ostend where there are also many restaurants and the city museum. 

The coastal tram is also a very nice way of travelling to other coastal cities in Belgium. In summer, the tram runs every 10 minutes. In winter, in the mid-season and during the Christmas vacation and spring half-term, the tram runs every 15 minutes. With 68 stops between De Panne and Knokke, the tram covers most destinations along the Belgian coast.
